The Tony Award winning musical comedy we've been waiting for, Bye Bye Birdie, with a star-studded cast and a nine-piece orchestra, is coming to the Barn Theatre, March 13 thru March 30. We all know the story. This 1960's Broadway hit is a loving satire of 1950's small-town America, teenagers, and Rock n' Roll. Based on the great pop culture uproar when Elvis Presley was drafted in 1956, teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie is drafted, and his legion of teen-aged female fans march in the streets to protest. Taking advantage of this situation, a production assistant to the Ed Sullivan show suggests that Conrad sing a new song, “One Last Kiss” to a special fan selected at random so Conrad can bestow one last kiss before Uncle Sam takes him away. The scheme works when a young small town Ohio teenager is declared the winner. But no one has counted on the jealous wrath of her boyfriend, the chaos it causes in this quiet little town, and the effects it has on Conrad himself.
